I felt like the wind had been knocked out of me. When we were training, we were always told that we had to accept the fact that one day we would be in the situation of an injured or deceased child. I’d tried to prepare myself for that in the past couple of years, but now it looked like I was going to get both my first dead body and my first dead child all wrapped up in the same week.
